CHARLESTOWN NAVY YARD—FROM BUNKER HILL MONUMENT. habited by an industrious and frugal people. In going up Beachor Essex street we pass along the edge of the Chinese quarter,where Oxford street and place are crowded with Mongolianhomes, the central point of the 3,000 Asiatic Bostonians. Theyhave on Harrison avenue a score or more of stores—for tea, Celes-tial groceries, china, dress fabrics, incense, teak articles, books,firecrackers, and other Asiatic wares. Here are restaurantswhere chop-sooy, chow-mein, and Chinese teas and wines, andrice whisky are served over teakwood furniture; a joss-house andChristian mission, and a very large Masonic lodge; besides, hid-den fan-tan and opium joints, often raided by the police. Out in Cambridge is Harvard University, the illustrious crownof American education and which was founded in 1036 by the leg-islature. It has 4.000 students, with medical, dental and veteri-nary schools in Boston, and academic, law, divinity and scientificscliools her
